Rongai Route”

Rongai Route Is the only route to approach Kibo from the North. It allows the clients to ascend the mountain from the north eastern side of the mountain along the border between Tanzania and Kenya. For the final push to the summit, trekkers on this trail take the Kibo Hut route, joining it at the 5000m mark, just below Hans Mayer Cave. Again the trek can be completed in 6 days and nights, though trekkers usually take a day tour to the campsite beneath Mawenzi peak adding an extra day.

Day One – Welcome.

We will meet you upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we will then transport you to your overnight accommodation at “Mrefu Farm Lodge” This is approximately 70kms about an hour’s drive from the airport, the lodge is located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, here we will check in, have dinner and spend the night.

Day Two – Simba Camp.

After breakfast will meet with the porters and the guides and then we will be transported to the “Rongai Gate” Here we will then start to ascend to the “Simba Camp” via the village of Nalemoru this will be approximately 3 to 4 hours walk reaching an altitude of almost 1950m 6069ft. Upon arrival there we will have our meal and spend the night.

Day Three – Kilelewa Camp.

After breakfast we will start walking to Kikelewa Caves and the camp area this will take approximately six to seven hours to reach. After the night the ascend continuing to “Second Cave” 3450m 11318ft Kikelewa caves is 3800m 12467ft

Day Four – Mawenzi Turn.

We will ascend to Mawenzi Tarn around 4330m 14206ft taking meals and camping. This will take between 3 to 4 hours.

Day Five – Kibo Station and Summit.

The assent continues from Mawenzi to Kibo Hut almost 4-5 hours, about 4730m 15518ft after few rests we will continue with guides during the night to go and conquer the summit 5895m 19340ft

Day Six – Horombo Hut.

After breakfast we will start to descend via Marangu route to Horombo Hut there we will have our meals and overnight.

Day Seven – Marangu Gate to Mrefu Farm Lodge.

The clients complete to descent to Marangu gate and then are taken by vehicles to Mrefu Farm House for lunch and overnight.

Day Eight – Depart or an optional Safari.
