Umbwe Route”

Umbwe Route Many consider this trail to be the hardest trail because of a tough vertical slog through the jungle and in some places where the climbers use tree roots as makeshift ladders.

Having reached the southern circular route, trekkers then traditionally continue north to tackle Kibo from the west and the difficult Arrow Glacier Route, though you can also follow the southern circular route round to Barafu and approach the summit from there.

The entire walk up and down takes about 7 days (with days of acclimatizing at Karanga valley). If going via Barafu campsite, it can be a 6-day hike via the western breach.
